A Paradigm Shift' How AI Could Be Used to Predict People's Health Issues

Go for a health check and you will probably be told of your risk of a stroke or heart attack over the next 10 years.
The prediction draws on simple data: age, sex, smoking history, cholesterol, blood pressure and more. While the risk is stated to the 10th of one percent, the reality is far less certain.
Doctors have used the Qrisk calculation for years, but its days are surely numbered. Artificial intelligence programs trained on masses of health records aim to predict the full array of ailments humans develop, and crucially, when they will arise.
This week, the UK announced the most ambitious project so far. Researchers at University College London (UCL) and King's College London trained an AI system on anonymised NHS data from 57 million people in England. It is the first time AI has been unleashed on an entire nation's health records.
