AIRLIFTED TO HOSPITAL AFTER BEING STRUCK BY A DIRT BIKE RIDER
A MUM has told of her horror at seeing her son lying in the road after being hit by a dirt bike rider during a trip to a pizza shop.
Donna Sweeney was sitting in her car waiting for her son, Ryan Cameron to return from the takeaway on the Headland in Hartlepool when she felt something hit the car.
The 48-year-old got out to see if the rider was alright and to look at the damage to the car but instead saw her son, who has learning difficulties, lying in the road unconscious and bleeding.
Donna said she was screaming and could hear people shouting and calling for police and the ambulance. A passing nurse rushed to the scene to help the 20-year-old before ambulance crews and the air ambulance arrived to transport him to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
The collision happened on May 10 and Ryan suffered a bleed on the brain, swelling, a fractured jaw, a skull fracture, and facial injuries and remains in the intensive care unit.
