Sickness bug hits club's hopes of making history
The Gazette
|September 13, 2025
MIDDLESBROUGH will be looking to make history at Preston North End today, but have concerns over a sickness bug that’s hit the squad ahead of their return to action.
-
After a two week break that saw Boro sitting top of the Championship, they return to action at Deepdale this lunchtime looking to become the first Boro side in the club's 149-year history to start the season with five consecutive wins. They've already equalled the current record of four, last achieved by Bryan Robson's side in 1994.
However, just as Boro's injury luck appeared to be turning, with Riley McGree now the only senior player not injury-free in the squad, head coach Rob Edwards revealed that a sickness bug had impacted one or two players in the buildup to this weekend's game.
Understandably not giving away names, Edwards said: “We're doing okay. We've had a couple back [Seny Dieng and Alex Bangura] but we've had a little bit of a sickness bug in the camp, which hopefully hasn't disrupted things massively. We're dealing with that, so we'll see, but we're in a good spot.”
