REDCAR and Cleveland Council's retiring managing director John Sampson is due to remain with the local authority until November.

Mr Sampson, pictured, announced in March that he was leaving after 16 years with the council, six of which, latterly, he has been managing director, also known as ‘head of paid service’.

The local authority previously scrapped the chief executive role after the retirement of Amanda Skelton in 2019.

Mr Sampson has been taking part in a “managed transition” with his successor, Brian Archer since his appointment in May in order to facilitate an “appropriate knowledge transfer” and agreed an extended notice period beyond the usual three months taking him up until the autumn.
