'People don't expect that voice to come out of a young lad
The Gazette
|September 02, 2025
BY SWITCHING from George Formby to the Rat Pack era, he’s done it his way. And now that he’s performing songs in the style of classic crooners, 14-year-old George Robinson has notched up millions of social media likes - and approval from the likes of Canadian megastar Michael Buble.
George, of Redcar, first made headlines two years ago when, armed with a ukulele and a handful of songs, he busked in the town’s High Street as George Formby.
Since then, his deeper voice and newfound love for the Rat Pack era has seen him shift towards performing classic songs from the 1940s and 50s.
Nattily dressed in smart gear and, thanks to two extra years, natural talent and ongoing singing lessons, George “Redcar's crooner” now delivers classic songs with the style and panache of Sinatra, Dean Martin and the like. And social media has gone mad for him.
One video alone, where George performs the Sinatra standard 'That's Life', clocked up 4.6m views.
And when it was shared by influencer Growing Up Italian, millions more views were added and praise started to flood in.
