Nursery challenges the findings of Ofsted report
The Gazette
|August 18, 2025
A NURSERY'S safeguarding policy and arrangements are “ineffective”, say Ofsted.
Nunthorpe Children’s Day Nursery’s provision is “inadequate” as inspectors raised issues with all areas of The Crescent facility.
“The provider's safeguarding arrangements are ineffective,” the Ofsted report states.
“For example, leaders fail to notify the local authority designated officer and Ofsted when allegations are made against staff.”
It continues: “The provider's adopted written safeguarding policy does not include the correct action to be taken in the event of an allegation being made against a member of staff. This is a breach in requirements and compromises children’s safety.”
The early years setting in Nunthorpe, Middlesbrough, was inspected on May 21 with its overall effectiveness rated as “inadequate”.
The areas of personal development and leadership and management were also found to be “inadequate”.
The quality of education and behaviour and attitudes were judged as “requires improvement”.
Following the publication of the inspection report, director of Nunthorpe Children’s Day Nursery James Howlett says he is taking legal action.
