MPs to look for ways to tackle the growing threat of wildfires
The Gazette
|April 24, 2026
MPs are set to investigate the growing threat of wildfires to the countryside, cities and towns in the wake of a record-breaking fire season last year.
-
The Parliamentary Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Efra) committee said wildfires - an increasing risk due to climate change - threaten lives, cause pollution that harms health and can be devastating for nature, soil and agriculture.
The committee is launching a call for evidence on the growing threat posed by wildfires, looking at areas including how land can be managed to prevent fires, funding available to land managers, resources and training for emergency services, and the policies in place or needed to reduce fires and their impacts.
