JORDAN Hogg was suffering massive blood loss as he left his Hemlington flat and tried to get help from a neighbour, a murder trial has heard.
Mr Hogg collapsed and died as his neighbour opened their door on February 28.
He had a large slash wound to his neck that went so deep it had damaged the top of his vertebrae.
Six people are on trial accused of the 28-year-old's murder.
A jury at Newcastle Crown Court has heard from pathologist Dr Sam Hoggard.
Taking to the witness box on yesterday afternoon, Dr Hoggard told a packed courtroom and public gallery that Mr Hogg died as a result of his blood loss.
A post mortem was carried out at James Cook University Hospital and it found that Mr Hogg died from the large incised wound to his neck, the resulting blood loss, and "possibly an embolism."
