WELDER INJURED ON MOTORWAY AFTER UNKNOWN OBJECT 'SLICED' THROUGH HIS WINDSCREEN
A Teesside welder says he could have been killed after an unknown object shot through his windscreen on the motorway and sliced down the side of his head in a nightmare incident.
Jake Gray is now appealing for potential witnesses to come forward as he urges steps to be taken to ensure no one else is injured, or possibly killed, in a similar incident.
The item has not been found but Cheshire Police have said inquiries remain ongoing.
Leaving his home in Thornaby at 4.30am, Jake was travelling to work at a site in Warrington, on what would have been his day off, when the horrifying incident occurred.
The 31-year-old said: "I was about 10 minutes away from my side and in the third lane of the carriageway.
"Something must have come across over the barrier as there was nothing directly in front of me. It's sliced straight through the windscreen, glass shattered in my face and it's gone out the rear window.
"I don't know how but I managed to pull over safely and that's when I called 999. It all happened in the blink of an eye. I screamed in panic. I noticed when I looked in the mirror that I had a big gash in the side of my face, past above my ear.
