Council looking internally for its replacement MD

A COUNCIL will look to appoint from within in order to replace its managing director when he retires later this year.

A report expected to be approved by Redcar and Cleveland Council's cabinet said an internal recruitment process would be ringfenced solely to the three executive directors who sit directly below head of paid service John Sampson in its senior management structure.

The report said: "There is considerable experience and knowledge internally within the current three executive directors. There is a need to allow internal staff to develop and progress by creating opportunities in the wider organisation. Given that position and the inherent expense and uncertainty that arises in terms of external recruitment to senior roles, it seems appropriate, initially, to undertake a recruitment process, as the constitution permits, to recruit from an internal, ringfenced pool."
