Carer denies 'provoking and humilating’ patient

A CARER is standing trial accused of “provoking and humiliating” a dementia patient at a Saltburn nursing home.

Chike Akabogu, 30, is alleged to have told the resident he was caring for at Hazel Grove nursing home: “You can’t hit me, you're not strong enough.”

And when the patient responded by trying to bite Akabogu, he allegedly “put his hand in the man’s mouth and said, ‘you can't bite me, you have no teeth,” Teesside Crown Court was told. Akabogu denies the ill-treatment of a person who lacks capacity.
