BP drops hydrogen plan
The Gazette
|December 02, 2025
ENERGY giant BP has pulled out of plans for a hydrogen development at the massive Teesworks site, potentially clearing the way for a data centre to be built there instead.
Part of the site near Redcar had been the subject of a tug-of-war in recent months, with competing national interests - clean energy production, and support for AI development - both wanting to use the same land.
But now BP has formally written to the Government to withdraw its plans, saying that “material changes” at Teesworks means it no longer plans to continue the H2Teesside scheme. It says it remains committed to other energy projects on Teesside.
