Big Boro fan favourite Boateng back in town
The Gazette
|April 15, 2025
A MIDDLESBROUGH FC history maker is on his way back to Teesside to relive some of the most memorable times at the club with fans.
Dutch international George Boateng was the midfield rock Steve McClaren built his team around as the club lifted silverware for the very first time and took Europe by storm as they made it to the final of the UEFA Cup in 2006.
The visit will be the very first night devoted fully to his stories and recollections since he left the club in 2008.
It was in 2002 that the then Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren paid Aston Villa £5m to secure the services of the hugely committed strongman, who would go on to captain the club and become a real fans favourite and winner at the Riverside.
Born in Guyana, Teesside became his home as he made close on 200 appearances for the club in a memorable six-year spell.
