All-seater ruling prompted new £16m stadium for Middlesbrough FC

THE inquiry into the Hillsborough Stadium disaster by Lord Justice Taylor in 1990 recommended that all large stadiums should be seated and ticketed.

A flurry of rebuilding followed, led by the 1ith oldest English club located on Teesside.
Middlesbrough FC had been based in and around Albert Park since its inception in 1876. Ayresome Park had been built 90 years earlier on part of the old Paradise Ground. The area around the old Oldgate Farm by the end of the 20th century was unrecognisable, with no room for expansion, and adaptation would reduce capacity to 20,000.
