After 100 years, club has first female member

A SOCIAL club's first female member in its 100-year history says she's excited for the future.

As reported by us in January, the Saltburn (Lune Street) Social Club was set to mark its centenary year by allowing women members for the first time.
Now, after 82.6% of members approved the move in a vote last month, "The Luney" is officially a "mixed" membership club, with revised documentation submitted to Companies House.
And the first female member to sign up, Nicky Mulqueen, will feel right at home as not only was she club secretary and treasurer between 2020-25, her dad Don was such a popular member, there's even a portrait of him on the wall.
Nicky said Don, a former RAF warrant officer, loved popping into the club whenever he was home.
He died in 2008, aged 62, but Nicky says he'd have been proud of his daughter becoming the club's first female member.
And she says that after becoming secretary and treasurer in 2020, she realised the club's massive potential to be a big part of Saltburn life. She said: "I have a banking background and when the role came up, I wanted to do it to help make the club more successful in my dad's memory.
