Annual aquathlon welcomes record numbers as competitors take to pool and track for day of inclusive sporting fun

Newton Stewart Triathlon Club recently held their annual aquathlon at the Merrick Leisure Centre in Newton Stewart.
Despite the varying climate, competitors and spectators alike were able to benefit from a friendly and fun afternoon of sporting endeavour.
A total of 63 competitors took place across all categories, including a disabled athlete, and the youngest participant was just two-years-old.
The event requires participants to swim in the leisure centre pool followed by a run. Distances varied across the age group with the youngest - eight and under - doing a two length, 50m run and a two lap, 650m run. The adult sprint distance featured a 750m swim and a 5k run, taking them out onto nearby roads.
