A campaign to stop a huge industrial wind farm project in the hills above Gatehouse is picking up speed.

- STEVE NORRIS

Around 20 activists gathered at Glengap near Twynholm on Monday night to discuss how to mobilise public support against the scheme, earmarked for moorland at Lairdmannoch.

The meeting heard how developers Wind 2, who describe their plan as an "energy park", want to build nine wind turbines up to 180 metres tall, solar panel array, a battery storage facility and access roads.

Design maps show the proposed development would cover an area of several square kilometres between Loch Whinyeon above Gatehouse, Loch Mannoch and Laurieston.

If built, the turbines would stand higher than Blackpool Tower on land up to 220 metres above sea level.
