WaterLogues: Cebu's two-day conversation on water and our future in Cebu

“Water is both our lifeline and our looming crisis.

- Cherry Piquero-Ballescas

Every household/farm/business depends on it, yet the province is facing alarming pressures: falling groundwater levels/saltwater intrusion/and watershed decline.

The taps may still run for many of us today, but the question grows louder each year—will Cebu have enough water for its people/ its economy/its future?

This is the urgent backdrop for the August 28-29, 2025 WaterLogues: Conversations for a Water-Secure Future in Cebu City.

Organized by the WWF-Philippines' Daloy Project in partnership with Kaabag sa Sugbo/ Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners (PIEP) College of Fellows and Cebu Chapter/Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)/Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI)/Municipality of Argao, WaterLogues is more than a conference.

It is a dialogue that asks Cebu to face its water crisis head-on.

Importantly, it is also a preside event of the global World Water Week, organized annually by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), bringing Cebu's local realities into the world stage.

WaterLogues unfolds through five sessions, each illuminating a crucial dimension of Cebu's water security challenge:

Session 1: Watersheds—The Lifeline of Our Future.
