The impeachment is dead forthwith

By all appearances, Senate President Chiz Escudero and Duterte's senators have already succeeded in "killing" the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte. Up to this date, Escudero, by his clever schemes and machinations, has been "killing it softly" and soon before the SONA, he is poised to deliver the coup de grace.

This is an opinion column, not fake news. We have no solid evidence to support our reasonable conclusion but we weren’t born yesterday. If we put two and two together, any Tom, Dick, and Harry can draw a logical conclusion. Apparently, the Senate president, who is being openly challenged by the comebacking veteran solon, Tito Sotto, has apparently entered into a modus vivendi with the Duterte group, as quid pro quo for retaining his seat as head of the Senate. All the rest will just be a charade.

The Dutertes now have the numbers to acquit. Speaker Martin and the House contingent don’t have 16 votes to convict. All the prosecution wants at this point in time isn’t really to convict but to proceed with the impeachment proceedings so they can parade the witnesses who shall repeat the very damaging testimonies against the vice president. One of the prosecutors, Congressman Lorenz Defensor, was my student in the UST College of Law and I must convey to him my prognosis. Nonetheless, he and the other prosecutors are poised to proceed.
