Sinulog prep progressing amid trimmed budget

Despite the trimmed budget for the Sinulog 2026 celebration, Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival has welcomed the council's full support for the festival, affirming that each member is involved and that preparations are steadily progressing.

This was the optimism expressed by Archival during his press conference yesterday, stating that the festival will be “well-organized and inclusive,” even as the city government earlier slashed the festival’s budget to prioritize recovery efforts for residents affected by Typhoon Tino.

Archival said organizing teams have already begun work at the Cebu City Sports Center (commonly referred to as Abellana, being located beside the Abellana National School), with councilors united in ensuring the success of Cebu’s premier religious and cultural event.

“We are very happy nga ang tanan nga mga teams nag-work na. In fact, nagsugod na ta sa Abellana. And I'm happy to say that all councilors are helping the Sinulog project to be a success,” he noted.

The mayor confirmed that another coordination meeting will be held this week, with organizers finalizing the participation of 36 to 37 contingents.
