Pam suspends rollout of EV taxi units in Cebu

Under the agreement reached, the launch of the EV taxi operations will be deferred to allow a broader discussion on the potential impacts of the project on the province, particularly on existing transport operators and traffic conditions.

"In deference to Governor Pam Baricuatro’s concerns on the operation of EV taxis in Cebu, GSM has agreed to defer the launching of its operations and has agreed to pursue genuine consultation with the public to present and discuss the social, economic, and environmental impacts of the EV taxi operations in the province of Cebu," according to the LTFRB.

The LTFRB said the consultation will provide a venue to present and deliberate on the social, economic, and environmental implications of introducing EV taxi services in Cebu Province.

A consultative meeting involving key stakeholders has been scheduled for January 5, 2026, shortly after the yuletide season.

Baricuatro clarified that her stance is not against electric vehicles or environmentally friendly transport initiatives, but against the process by which operating authority was granted to the company.
