New partnership aims to curb plastic pollution in Cebu City

Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc. (Prime Infra), through its social development arm Prime Infra Foundation and waste management subsidiary Prime Integrated Waste Solutions (PWS), has partnered with global environmental company RiverRecycle to strengthen efforts in addressing plastic pollution in Cebu City.
As part of the initiative, RiverRecycle has deployed a floating boom system along a major stretch of the Kinalumsan River in Barangay Mambaling.
The technology is designed to intercept floating debris before it reaches the ocean and is expected to prevent around 97,000 kilograms of waste—including more than 13,000 kilograms of plastic—from entering marine ecosystems annually.
"Improper waste disposal, particularly dumping into bodies of water, remains a significant environmental challenge," said Cara Peralta, Prime Infra Market Sector Lead for Waste.
"There’s a lot of work needed in terms of improving waste management systems in the Philippines. Collaborating with RiverRecycle, whose expertise lies in intercepting waste at critical points such as rivers, aligns perfectly with PWS’s mission,” Peralta added.
