Midnasty highlights personal growth in new album 'Tribute to Thyself'

On the morning of August 17, a Sunday, Midnasty traded their usual nighttime performances laced with heavy beats for a more intimate, acoustic set during their recent gig in Cebu City.
Titled “Soul Speak,” the show followed an “NPR Tiny Desk Concert”-style setup, with the Dumaguete-based hip-hop group performing stripped-down versions of their hits, such as “Ilongga,” along with tracks from their new album “Tribute to Thyself” released last May, including “Palalom” and “Bless Your Heart.”
It wasn’t the first time the group tried this arrangement. “This is our second time,” Nikko told The FREEMAN backstage before the gig. “We did this before in Dumaguete in 2019 when we first performed in the morning. We prefer this experience because we get to be closer to the people, with coffee on the side. It’s like a small gathering and we want to give them a different side of Midnasty.”
“The feeling is like being at a family gathering...a jam session at home. It feels so natural,” Ar Kho added.
