MCIA's new retail concept aims to spur travel spending

Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) is broadening travel retail options inside its terminal in a bid to capture stronger consumer spending from travelers, even as the Philippines' tourism sector contends with uneven international arrivals.

MCIA partnered with Primer Group of Companies to open a Flight 001 popup store in the airport's pre-departure area just ahead of the year's peak travel season.

The global travel-lifestyle retailer offers last-minute travel essentials — from tech accessories and packing solutions to comfort gear and anti-theft bags — aiming to convert foot traffic into higher retail sales among both domestic and international passengers.

Airport officials and retail partners are positioning expanded retail formats as part of a broader strategy to enhance the passenger experience and stimulate spending within the terminal.
