Mandaue eyes participating in P20-per- kilo rice program

|May 07, 2025
The Mandaue City Government has expressed strong interest in joining the P20-per-kilo rice program launched by the Department of Agriculture and the Cebu Provincial Government on May 1, 2025.
City Administrator Jamaal James Calipayan confirmed that Mandaue had already communicated its interest to the Provincial Agriculture Office during the planning phase of the program. However, the city has not yet been allocated any rice supply, as several other local government units (LGUs) are still ahead in the queue.
Mandaue is currently 13th in line, with 12 other LGUs still waiting for their allocation, the City Agriculture Office reported.
Although Mandaue did not receive an allocation, the city still participated in the program's launch. Calipayan said the city wanted to show support despite being unable to sell rice to its target beneficiaries during the event.
The rollout is currently on hold due to the election ban implemented by the Commission on Elections (Comelec). Calipayan stressed that Mandaue City remains committed to participating as soon as the rollout resumes.
