Mandaue City Council summons landfill execs
The Freeman
|January 14, 2026
The Mandaue City Council has called on officials of Prime Waste Solutions Cebu (PWSC), the management behind the collapsed Binaliw landfill, to appear before the body during its regular session next week to provide an update on the status of its operations.
Councilor Carlo Fortuna, author of the resolution, said the council wants PWSC to brief members on its current operations, particularly on how long the Binaliw landfill can continue to accommodate waste from Mandaue City and possibly the rest of Metro Cebu.
"Their appearance will at least give the council a heads-up on our questions, especially on how long the landfill can still serve the waste requirements of the city," Fortuna said in an interview.
Fortuna recalled that in 2019, when he was still vice mayor, the city council approved the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Mandaue City Government and PWSC, allowing the disposal of waste at the Binaliw landfill.
