Manzano also warned against building on uplifted reef flats, describing them as geologically unstable and vulnerable to erosion, storm surges, and subsidence. "Better be considered for protection and tourist attraction," she said.
Earlier, MGB-7 Geosciences Division chief Josephine Aleta explained that sinkholes are primarily caused by the collapse of cave roofs beneath the ground, triggered by seismic shaking. Cebu's limestone-rich geology makes it especially vulnerable.
