Garcia urges Archival to uphold status quo promise for CH workers

Outgoing Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia has called on Mayor-elect Nestor Archival Sr. to fulfill his promise of maintaining a status quo among city employees during the transition, and to extend this arrangement for three months after assuming office.

Archival, who is set to take office at noon on June 30, had earlier stated in interviews that he would implement a three-month status quo upon assuming his post. Garcia welcomed the move and thanked Archival for the assurance.

Garcia, who placed second to Archival in the recent midterm elections, described the incoming mayor as a man of "circumspection and prudence."

He said the three-month extension would allow sufficient time to evaluate Job Order (JO) and casual employees based on their performance.

The evaluation, Garcia said, will determine whether an employee’s contract should be retained.

As an example, he cited his administration’s move to elevate daycare center teacherspreviously compensated via honorarium—to JO status, which entailed higher pay.
