Council seeks thorough review of city's post typhoon response

The Cebu City Council has called for urgent and coordinated action to address the lingering humanitarian and public health crisis left in the wake of Typhoon Tino, which struck the city and neighboring towns two weeks ago.

This measure was approved by the Council following the privilege speech of Councilor Mikel Rama during the most recent regular session.

"The storm was brief, but the consequences are enduring," Rama said during his speech as he described how the typhoon washed out entire communities, leaving many families homeless and others with houses still standing but emptied of all possessions.

“Niundang na ang uwan apan ang pag-antos nagpadayon,” he added, underscoring the suffering that continues even after the rains have stopped.

Rama painted a grim picture of the post-typhoon landscape, warning of a growing sanitation crisis and the threat of disease outbreaks.

"Some lost not only their homes but their entire way of life," he said. "Those who had less, lost everything."
