City monitoring prices of commodities
The Freeman
|March 25, 2026
Cebu City is tightening its grip on commodity prices through stricter monitoring, coordinated enforcement, and direct engagement with suppliers to prevent unjustified increases and ensure stable supply.
-
Mayor Nestor Archival said the city is acting early, even as the price of commodities hasn't risen so much yet to guard households against the ripple effects of rising global fuel costs.
"Mao nga importante nga mag-andam ta ug palig-onon ang atong monitoring ug coordination with concerned offices," he said.
These measures were formalized through the convening of the Cebu City Special Price Monitoring and Consumer Protection Body, which met at the Mayor's Office Conference Room to align interventions under the Price Act (RA 7581). The law mandates a price freeze during states of calamity or emergency, but while Cebu City isn't under such a declaration, officials agreed that preparation is crucial.
