Cebu's hospitality sector gets boost from new hotel alliance

Philippine property giant Megaworld Corporation is scaling up its hotel and tourism play in Cebu as it teams up with global hospitality leader Accor to enhance its portfolio under the Megaworld Hotels & Resorts banner.

In a move that signals both confidence in Cebu's tourism trajectory and a strategic alignment with global travel trends, the Belmont Hotel Mactan-located within Megaworld's 30-hectare Mactan Newtown township in Lapu-Lapu City-is set to be rebranded as Mercure Mactan Cebu.

The transition will introduce the well known Mercure brand into Megaworld's hotel lineup, using Accor's experience and global loyalty program to enhance operations.

"We aim to redefine Cebu's tourism landscape," said Cleofe Albiso, managing director of Megaworld Hotels & Resorts.

"Mercure Mactan Cebu will not only elevate our presence in the region but will also become a catalyst for driving tourism growth, stimulating the local economy, and strengthening investor confidence in the province," Albiso explained.
