The Cebu City Planning and Development Office (CCPDO) has supported the initiative to allocate P10 million to P15 million for the conduct of a feasibility study to update the city's drainage master plan, which will serve as the basis for the P8.2-billion modernization project.

This was CCPDO’s response sent yesterday to the City Council following the latter’s directive to provide an update on Cebu City’s drainage master plan.

In its letter, the CCPDO acknowledged that the current drainage master plan, last updated in 2015, is no longer viable to address the pressing realities of rapid urbanization, climate change, and the recent flooding incidents that have severely affected constituents.

The CCPDO said it is appropriate for the Council to require accountability and clarity—both of which they described as timely and necessary.

In line with this, the CCPDO backed the planned allocation of between P10 million and P15 million for the conduct of the feasibility study. On top of this is the establishment of the foundation for the proposed P8.2-billion modernization of the city's drainage system.

To ensure that this undertaking is properly implemented, the CCPDO outlined various guidelines to be observed.
