In a statement issued Friday (December 12), the day after the incident occurred, BIR denounced the killing of Lincuna, who it said was a respected revenue officer, under the agency's Large Taxpayers Division, while it urged the public to honor the privacy of the bereaved family.
-
“The BIR unequivocally condemns the senseless act of violence that took his life. We call for calm, unity, and respect for the family's privacy during this painful time,” the statement reads.
To address the circulating unverified stories, the BIR also reminded the public to avoid making speculations and jumping to conclusions regarding the incident, stressing that there are authorized people who are entrusted with the investigation of the case to ensure justice for the victim.
“We also appeal to the public to refrain from speculation and allow the proper authorities to conduct a swift, thorough, and impartial investigation that will bring justice to Atty. Lincuna,” the statement said.
The BIR community further expressed their condolences and sympathies to the bereaved wife, children, family, friends, and colleagues of Lincuna, one of the revenue officers assigned to the Revenue District Office 123 in Cebu City.
Attorney Lincuna started to work with the BIR in 1994, and had served the agency for 29 years by handling large scale businesses and property cases in the city.
