A total of 81 families from Barangay Calamba received more than P30,000 each in financial assistance from the Cebu City government after they were displaced by a court-ordered demolition.

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol/FPL

The amount represents the equivalent of 60 days of the prevailing minimum wage, as mandated under Section 28 of Republic Act No. 7279, or the Urban Development and Housing Act of 1992.

Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP) Officer-in-Charge Marie Joan Loreto explained that in the absence of an immediate relocation site, the law requires local government units to provide financial assistance to help affected families meet their basic needs while long-term housing solutions are being pursued.
