Raaja, Movie Makers settle rights row for ₹50 lakh
The Free Press Journal - Mumbai
|December 04, 2025
The dispute between composer Ilaiyaraaja and production house Mythri Movie Makers over unauthorised usage of the composer's classic songs in two 2025 films has been resolved through a compromise under which the producers paid ₹50 lakh as a "commercial settlement and gratitude".
A joint memo filed before Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy on Wednesday recorded that the Hyderabad-based Mythri entity transferred the amount via RTGS after deducting 10 percent as tax at source.
The films at the centre of the dispute - a star-studded action-comedy and a youthful drama - had included several of Ilaiyaraaja's iconic compositions without securing explicit consent from the composer.
