Notice to govt on free sanitary napkins

The Madras High Court on Tuesday directed the State government to file a counter affidavit by 16 December addressing a public interest litigation that demands free or subsidised sanitary napkins be distributed via ration shops under the Public Distribution System.
The First Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G. Arul Murugan warned that if no affidavit is filed, the responsible government officials must appear in court to explain any delay.
