The Indian Union Muslim League has approached the Supreme Court, raising co-neerns over the Election Commission's timing of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, claiming that it was strategically scheduled to coincide with the local body elections.
The IUML argues that the exercise was an attempt to create unnecessary pressure on state officials, deprive non-r-esident Indians in Kerala of their voting rights, and exclude many potential voters from the draft voter list.
The petition, filed by IUML general secretary P. K. Kunhalikutty, highlighted the concerns regarding the revision process.
According to the petition, the timing of the SIR directly clashes with the local body elections, which are a critical democratic process in the state.
