Indrayani pollution prompts PCMC to build 2 STPs

Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will construct two sewage treatment plants (STPs) in Chikhali to reduce pollution in the Indrayani River, officials said on Monday.

The plants, with a combined capacity of 60 million litres per day (MLD), are expected to check the discharge of untreated water into the river, which flows through pilgrimage sites at Dehu Gaon and Alandi.

The Indrayani has been facing rising pollution levels in recent years due to rapid urbanisation and untreated discharge from Pimpri-Chinchwad and the Chakan industrial belt. By the time the river reaches Alandi, it often turns into white foam, locals said.
