Drone monitoring, spl trains to handle Diwali rush at Surat, Udhna
The Free Press Journal - Mumbai
|October 11, 2025
As the festive season approaches, Surat and Udhna railway stations are witnessing a heavy rush of migrant workers traveling to North India ahead of Diwali, Chhath Puja, and the upcoming Bihar elections.
To prevent overcrowding and ensure passenger safety, Western Railway and Surat City Police have rolled out a comprehensive crowd management plan, featuring drone surveillance, special trains, and expanded passenger facilities.
Every year, thousands of workers from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, and Odisha head home from Surat — one of India’s largest textile and diamond hubs — to celebrate with their families. To manage this surge, authorities are taking proactive measures to maintain order and avoid any stampede-like situations dur-
ing peak travel days.
