BMC clears 42 illegal structures for bridge proposed in 2002

To make way for the long-awaited vehicular bridge connecting SVP Nagar to Yari Road in Andheri, the BMC’s K-West ward removed 42 illegal settlements, including slums and a religious structure, at SVP Nagar near Lokhandwala on Thursday.
The major demolition drive was carried out along with the suburban collector's office.
Once completed, the bridge is expected to reduce travel time between the two areas from around 35 minutes to just five minutes, improving connectivity and easing traffic congestion. After two decades of discussion, the BMC issued a Rs 42-crore tender in November 2023 for construction.
