Yet, scratch the surface, and the plan looks less like a breakthrough and more like a mirage — designed as much to burnish Trump's legacy as to resolve one of the world’s most intractable conflicts. The irony is hard to miss. Only months ago, the U.S, president toyed with the grotesque idea of turning Gaza into a “Riviera” cleansed of its people — a notion aligned with the fantasies of Israel’s hard-right coalition. That such talk could even be entertained shows how casually human lives were dismissed. Now, after losing patience with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his endless war policy, Trump has begun presenting himself as a peacemaker. His motives remain transparent: the Nobel Peace Prize that has so far eluded him.
