R-Day message: Siddaramaiah calls for safeguarding Constitution

|January 27, 2026
Chief Minister Siddara-maiah on Monday warned of a “gradual conspiracy” to weaken India’s Constitution, calling it an attempt to “slowly administer poison” to the nation’s foundational law.
In a message for the 77th Republic Day, he said those aware that amending the Constitution is not easy were attempting to dilute it slowly.
“Opposition to the Constitution is also opposition to social change and social justice,” he said. He added that the public should recognise that resistance to the Constitution includes opposition to laws and programmes benefiting the poor, farmers, workers, Dalits, and other marginalised groups.
Recalling Babasaheb Ambedkar’s role in drafting the Constitution, Mr Sid-daramaiah noted that even at the time of its adoption, there were opponents.
