TOLL CHASE | Crime Branch officers escape a fired shot during a late-night pursuit at Somatane Phata before arresting three history-sheeters

- Varad Bhatkhande

In a late-night chase on the old Mumbai-Pune Highway, officers from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate escaped a fired shot at Somatane Phata Toll Plaza in the early hours of Thursday.

A bullet was fired at Crime Branch personnel, but no one was injured, police said, crediting the presence of mind shown by the team.

Burglaries and vehicle thefts have recently increased in the city, placing all Crime Branch units on high alert under the direction of Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey. While probing such offences, the police team pursued three notorious history-sheeters and intercepted them at Somatane Phata near Talegaon Dabhade.

Crime Branch Unit 2 arrested Sunny Singh Papa Singh Dudhani (24) and Jal Singh Rajput Singh Dudhani (32) from Hadapsar, and Manish Babulal Kushwah (28) from Madhya Pradesh. A fresh case has been registered at Talegaon Dabhade Police Station under BNS Section 109 (attempt to murder) and relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act of 1959.
