A police case linked to the parody song Pottiye Kettiye took an unexpected turn after a counter-complaint was filed against the man who had first approached the authorities over the song, widening a controversy that has already raised questions about free expression, selective policing and the use of criminal law in cultural disputes.

Public activist Kulathoor Jaisingh submitted a complaint before the Chief Minister, seeking action against Prashant Kuzhikala, general secretary of Thiru-uvabharanam Patha Samrakshana Samithi. Kuzhikala had earlier lodged a police complaint alleging that the parody song was offensive and defamatory, leading to the registration of a case against its creators.

Jaisingh has now urged the government to order an inquiry into Kuzhikala’s organisation and its activities, arguing that the original complaint was motivated by personal and political considerations rather than genuine public interest.
