Kerala has been among the states that delayed joining PM SHRI, citing concerns over NEP and imposition of central policies
The Left Democratic Front government's decision to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Centre for the PMSHRI scheme reverses an earlier stance by the CPM-led state government that had branded the National Education Policy 2020 underpinning it as an “ideological drive’.
Education Minister V.Sivankutty stated the decision was driven by the need to secure withheld central funds amounting to more than ₹1,000 crore under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
