Diwali rush: Ahmedabad flyers face ₹25K airfares, packed trains

Flights, trains to Delhi, Ayodhya, and Varanasi are fully booked, forcing travellers to cancel plans or resort to costly alternatives
With Diwali just days away, the festive excitement across Gujarat is being overshadowed by an unprecedented travel rush.
Ahmedabad, one of the busiest transit hubs in western India, is witnessing skyrocketing airfares and fully booked trains, leaving holidaymakers scrambling for last-minute options.
What was once a routine Rs4,500 one-way flight from Ahmedabad to Delhi has now soared to as high as Rs25,000, making even short domestic trips a luxury. Travel agents say bookings have surged since July, with almost all northbound flights and trains packed to capacity. The Diwali travel period, which begins around October 18, has triggered a wave of panic among travellers who waited too long to book.
