Rahul Mamkootathil was expelled from the Congress on Thursday after a court denied his anticipatory bail request in a rape case, triggering an immediate decision by the party leadership to remove him from its primary membership.
The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee confirmed the expulsion through a statement issued by its chief, Sunny Joseph, who said the move followed approval from the All India Congress Committee and reflected the party's view that the MLA should relinquish his Assembly seat without delay.
