Citing Heavy Bills, Farmers Protest Against Smart Meters

Farmers in Pithampur and Sagaur areas have protested against smart meters, removing them from their fields and throwing them at the office with drums, citing exorbitant electricity bills.
Domestic consumers are also troubled, with bills rising from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000. The government installed smart meters to curb electricity theft and losses, but the bills have doubled or tripled, affecting farmers and domestic consumers.
