Amrutanjan faces temple land rent battle

Amrutanjan Limited, a Chennai-based pharmaceutical company known for its pain relief balm for more than a century, has moved the Madras High Court in a legal dispute involving alleged rental arrears running into crores of rupees for land owned by the Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore.

The company has filed a writ appeal challenging a single judge’s order directing eviction from the temple property and recovery of rent arrears calculated at significantly higher rates than what had historically been paid.

The case centres on about 14 grounds and 910 square feet of land on Luz Church Road, a commercially valuable stretch in the Mylapore neighbourhood of Chennai. The property belongs to the Kapaleeswarar Temple, administered by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department of Tamil Nadu.
