Locals slam PMC over filthy, unsafe subway

The subway in Viman Nagar, built to ensure pedestrian safety on one of Pune’s busiest stretches, has now turned into a public hazard.

Choked with garbage, spitting stains and foul odour, the structure has become a breeding ground for filth and antisocial activity.

Speaking to The Free Press Journal (FPJ) on the ordeal, residents have accused the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) of neglecting maintenance and ignoring repeated complaints.

Akansha Sharma, a resident of the Air Force Station in Viman Nagar, said she stopped using the subway due to its poor condition.

“Until a few months back, I was using this subway. It was unclean and unsafe. The subway is poorly lit and feels extremely unsafe to use after it gets dark. Many drunkards sit there, and one feels it’s safer to cross the main road instead,” she alleged.
